This course is designed to prepare you for the bedside management of patients with lacerations.  This hands on skills lab provides you the opportunity to practice and become comfortable with suturing a number of wounds. As with our other labs, students are broken into smaller proctored groups to practice all suturing types with direct supervision to improve your competency.  The course covers wound care management,  proper selection of  suture material used specific to site, types of closures specific to types of wounds.  Suture techniques demonstrated are:  running stitch , simple interrupted stitch, vertical mattress stitch and multiple layer closure with sub-cuticular stitch.

At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify several aspects of wound care

  • Discuss basic wound care management

  • Demonstrate proper selection and use of suture materials

  • Demonstrate proper wound closure specific to wound size

  • Demonstrate running stitch, interrupted stitch, vertical mattress and subcutaneous closures.
